Buying books

Even though I am broke, I bought two more books today. One is The Case for the Real Jesus by Lee Strobel. The other is A Circle of Quiet by Madeleine L'Engle.

I chose the first book because its liner notes spoke to me of something I'm looking for. Lest that sound overly evangelical, let me clarify. I want to know more about Jesus. I am, as we all are, hounded by media images and conflicting information about this man who is supposed to be my salvation. As the author says, "Even Christians like me, people who've been convinced for years, have found ourselves troubled by these challenges that threaten to undermine everything we think we know about Jesus Christ." So, this may be the beginning of a new spiritual journey for me. I am intrigued by the scholarly, journalistic way in which he sets up and examines each claim and the methodical nature of his work, which is revealed in the first few pages. It should be interesting.

The second book is one I've been looking for for quite some time. I deeply admire Madeleine L'Engle's work. There is only one book of hers which I haven't enjoyed, and I think I simply read it before I was ready for it, as I have since discovered that it is one of her few adult novels rather than one of the many amazing young adult novels that I've loved since fourth grade. I found this one tucked in the shelves of the Christian inspiration section. I am really excited about it!
